Slack just announced various new features for their awesome team collaboration tool including shared channels for all paid plans and a dark mode. They also gave us an outlook on really exciting upcoming new features.
- Shared Channels For All Paid Plans
Shared channels are out of beta and now available for all paid Slack customers. With shared channels, you can collaborate with clients, vendors, partners and more, without leaving your Slack workspace.
- Dark Mode Comes To Desktop
For low-light conditions, or for people with light sensitivity, a dark color theme is now available for all desktop apps and browsers.
- App Management Policy For All Workspaces (Enterprise Grid)
Org owners can now automatically turn on admin app approvals across your organization’s workspaces in just a few clicks.
- Pre-Provisioned Users Receive Email Notifications
Slack turned on the new invited member experience for people who are pre-provisioned to Slack using SCIM, including anyone who was pre-provisioned in the past and has not been activated yet. These invited members will receive email notifications when someone messages or mentions them and be able to respond from their email inbox until they activate their Slack account.
- Search For Coworkers By Email Address
Users can now type a coworker’s email address into the org directory, direct message browser or people search to find the person in Slack. As an admin, you can control whether users’ email addresses are visible and searchable by setting the display email option at either the org or team level.
- Create More Engaging Apps For Slack
Powered by Block Kit, apps now have large, dedicated places to interactively display and collect information. That means Slack app developers can create more dynamic workflows, like booking flows and advanced surveys.
As for their roadmap, they just announced a pretty long list of features. However, it would take too far to list them all here. That’s why we have put our focus on the most important upcoming features. The Workflow Builder will soon be available for all paid customers and help automate routine processes. Using this visual, no-code tool, any team member can automate requests, approvals, and more. Admins can set permissions for who can publish workflows.
Other features will including data residency, domain whitelisting for Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), and bulk invitation of members to a channel with user lists.
