For those of you who haven’t heard it yet, iStock by Getty Images also comes with an awesome API that allows its partners to host the iStock image library directly on their own websites. It not only makes money, but also provides your audience with great content in an easy and innovative way.
Speaking of innovation, the API now has two faster search endpoints that are optimized for speed and ease of use. This gives you just the right amount of metadata you need to add video or image search results to your blog and site.
When using the API, there are some best practices to consider:
- Add callout text/copy to distinguish the iStock content from your own
- Pull at least four images to the API unit
- Pull in images based on keywords entered by users
- Add affiliate tracking
A big way to be successful with the API is to feature it across the most popular pages on your site. Search result pages, image detail pages, and on any search results page with no result from your own content.
A great way to succeed with the API is to present it on the most popular pages of your website, e.g. in the sidebar of travel related blog posts and search results pages.
If you are already an iStock partner, contact your account manager to learn more about implementing the API on your website. If not, sign up and give your audience whatever they want!
